Questions about this service
When can physiotherapy start after surgery?
According to your surgeon’s plan — often as soon as you are home. The physiotherapist works within the limits the surgeon sets, such as weight bearing or how far the joint may bend.
What should I prepare at home before the visit?
Have the walking aid from the hospital, your discharge notes or the doctor’s instructions, and a clear space to practise walking.
How long does recovery after surgery or a fracture take?
It depends on the operation and the injury. After a fracture, people usually use the limb again within 6–12 weeks, or at most around 6 months.
Weakness, slurred speech, facial droop or chest pain: call 1669 or go to emergency care.
